Various reasons account for this fashion change. The basic ones brought forth include the fact that shaving is very economical as compared to other hairstyles taking into consideration the size of our pockets, also easier to clean and maintain, the choice comes as a personal affair sometimes as some women say it gives them some degree of uniqueness, African beauty and smartness. Again one can sat low cut is a means of escaping from the stresses and inconveniences caused by harsh climatic conditions and the reasons continue.

However this hair style has its long and short term impacts on the society as a whole and on individuals in particular. On the society, we are looking at it from the perspective of both the fashion world and the business world as well. On the latter, it indicates that fashion is well embraced in the society and keeps revolving. Moreover in this context, it upholds the African identity and culture which is a very positive thing. Nevertheless like any other business, there are always winners and losers. The barbing saloons are definitely going to be making much more money now with the women involved but the hair dressing saloons are gradually losing potential customers which is bad for business.

In addition, this only implies that women are becoming more comfortable with their natural hair.  The effects of this should be whole heartedly embraced by the women who decide to shave. Fashion is all about a matter of choice, you make it,  and you live with it.  After all “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.”
